What Is Evacuation?

Evacuation is an emergency movement of person or people to the nearest safe place away from the hazard that occurs in the area. 


What Is Fire Evacuation?

Fire evacuation is an emergency movement of person or people from fire hazard that occurs in an area to the nearest safety place to make sure people are getting no harm from the fire. 


Why is it Important to do Evacuation?

It is important to do evacuation because of hazard that occurs in the area may causing harm to the people, this hazard also potentially risking the life of people in the area. 

Fire Risk 

In modern high-rise commercial buildings one of hazard that may occurs is Fire Accident. It is such an essential thing to be considered since fire in buildings (especially high-rise building) is spread fast and the evacuation is compete with time.

 

Smoke Hazard 

The initial hazard that endanger occupants in building fire is smoke hazard. Smoke is the mixture of the unburnt component (visible smoke) and the gaseous component of the materials being consumed by the flame, which is extremely hazardous to the unprotected occupants within the building in the following ways:

  • Visibility 

  • Heat 

  • Toxic Gaseous

Thus, the fire evacuation may conduct once the smoke hazard is appeared.


General Emergency Procedure for Fire Evacuation

General Fire Evacuation Procedure:

  • If the fire occurs in your area, please contact the emergency service.

  • Listen to the general alarm carefully.

  • Find and listen carefully to the evacuation instruction from the to the person in charge for emergency at your area.

  • Prepare yourself for evacuation (secure cash, data, and sensitive materials).

  • Leave all the unnecessary belongings in place once the fire alarm is sounded.

  • Move quickly and calmly to the nearest fire emergency exit.

  • Open the fire door carefully, make sure to not pushing other occupants on the other side.

  • Not pushing other occupants when walking towards or entering the emergency exit.

  • Always make sure to close the emergency door if there’s no other occupants entering the emergency exit.

  • Go to the nearest muster point.

  • Report any missing person to the warden.

  • Don’t come near the area where the fire occurs unless the fire fighter say it is safe to entering the area.


Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan 

A strategy for what is considered “seriously impaired” occupants should be developed for the special needs of individual motorised wheelchair occupants during an emergency.

  1. A “Need for Assistance” questionnaire will provide sufficient scope to identify the special needs of individual motorised wheelchair occupants. The questionnaire will require sufficient probity to ensure adequate measures are taken when evacuating from the building.
  2. Management to explain the “process” and conduct private individual interviews with special needs staff.
  3. Management to prepared draft PEEP with input provided by Building Management and Trimevac if required.
  4. Management to present draft PEEP to individual special needs staff for their comment and approval. Any matters raised by staff regarding their PEEP that requires further review to be  documented.
  5. Once the PEEP’s have been approved distribution to relevant stakeholders will be undertaken, e.g. Chief Warden, Building Management and HR Management. Note this information is considered confidential and restricted access to those involved in implementing the PEEP or HR Management. This information shall not be documented or displayed for general purpose.
  6. The buildings macro emergency procedure manual will be amended to indicate that PEEP interventions have been incorporated. Details of specific needs will not be documented for privacy reasons.
